Making Ends Meet
Undocumented families are being disproportionally impacted by the pandemic because many do not have a social security card and without it can’t access the stimulus check. On top of that, many aren’t able to work because their jobs have been shut down. For those who have been working as essential workers, the work is dangerous because they must expose themselves. We should all take some time to acknowledge and defend the minorities who are putting their lives on the line to aid us.
In my neighborhood, there is the ‘Latino economy’. People either sell their food, create goods on their own or sell cloth face masks that they made. I admire people who truly try to make the most out of the worst situations, like my mom who created a small essential business selling face masks that turned out to be successful. Face masks are essential items to work outside of the home or do any sort of activity outside. Cloth masks have now become popular which is fortunate for this lucky woman. She creates designs with her own bare hands and gets her clients from her Facebook page, which has been successful for her. Saying I’m proud of my mom would be an understatement. Despite how bad our current situation is, we still have found ways to keep ourselves from giving up.
